  • Do you travel? How far?
Shady Grove Magna Wave is a mobile service- I come to you! I try to stay within 50 miles of zip code 20877 but am more than happy to travel for multiple horses.
  • Why treat the whole body when the problem is in one area?
By increasing the blood oxygen in the whole body, the sensitive area continues to be helped as super oxygenated blood from the rest of the body continues to flow through the area.
  • How soon can I ride my horse after a session?
Immediately! There is no recovery time. Some trainers use PEMF before shows or events to get their horse supple and relaxed, others use it afterwards to decrease recovery time to get their horse back to work and feeling their best sooner.
  • How does PEMF Therapy compare to pain medication?
PEMF therapy is equivalent to 10mg of morphine in the amount of pain reduced. PEMF therapy is very useful as an adjunct to pain medication, and the patient often requires less dosing with time.
  • Is the energy field harmful to be around?
There are no ill effects of the therapy. It would take 17 hours of exposure to the Magna Wave signal to receive just 1 minute of elecro-smog from cell phones, microwaves, etc.
  • Is it the same as other magnetic therapy blankets and boots?
While the therapy is similar, the difference is in the delivery method: power and a deeper penetration. The higher power of Magna Wave provides shorter treatment times and immediate results. What the blankets can do in 2 to 3 weeks The Magna Wave Maxx machine can do in 10 minutes.
  • Is PEMF like a TENS machine?
With any external electrical stimulation, the current will follow the path of least resistance from your skin to your tissues. That often gives some tissues more current than they require and other tissues less than they need. This is a limitation of external electrical devices and possibly why they sometimes don’t help. However, magnetic fields penetrate through and through, so that your tissues get the benefit of microcurrents generated on site! With PEMF, the electrodes never touch you. You are bathed in a magnetic field. It turns out that your body is “transparent” to the field. Unlike electricity, which meets resistance, a magnetic field is virtually unaltered going through your body. When the magnetic field pulsates, it generates electrical flow (microcurrents) throughout the distribution of the pulsating magnetic field. These micro currents generate right inside the target tissues. They’re no longer dependent on an unobstructed electrical flow from electrodes on your skin.
  • How can I improve the effects of PEMF after a session?
The effects of magnetic fields happen because of how they act on ions (calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium), so these levels need to be correct in the body. Many believe that magnesium supplements are beneficial. Ensure your horse has access to adequate, clean drinking water to help rid him of toxins. Adequate nutrition is essential.
  • What causes cellular damge or injury in the first place?
Oxygen deprivation, physical agents, chemical agents (for example, in your horse’s grazing area), infectious agents, immunologic reactions, genetics, *nutritional imbalances*, mechanical trauma (injury, fractures, etc.), temperature extremes, and changes in atmosphere. Cellular injury progresses through various stages, during any of which repair may be possible if adequately treated.
  • When will the results of treatment be seen or felt?
Results are immediate with continued improvement over time with additional treatments.
  • How often do you recommend treatment?
It varies by person and animal. After an initial appointment, we will work together to develop a schedule based on your needs! For an acute problem, your horse may require several sessions in closure succesion. You can then spread treatments out to become part of your horse's regular maintenance program. Jaimie always tells her clients that their horse will tell the rider when they are ready for another treatment!
  • How can a PEMF treatment help identify trouble areas in my horse?
When the magnetic field hits a damaged or diseased area, the flow of energy is impeded, causing a “jumping” of the muscles in the form of pulsing and flinching. When there’s not an impedance, the energy flows right through. Fascia is an interconnected covering of the muscles that connects everything to everything else. This means that tissues far away from the source can be affected. PEMF helps identify the origin of referred pain- sometimes pain in one area actually indicates injury or disease process in another. Jaimie carefully watches your horse's response to the therapy and adjusts the settings accordingly. The horses reaction- whether it be a release response or movement away from the therapy- indicates what they have to say.
